We aim to exemplify Jesus' charge in Matthew 25 by serving our community's unhoused population with overnight shelter, meal distribution, job searches, housing application assistance, and distribution of essentials.
Who We Are
Shoals Shelter is comprised of a community of churches, volunteers, and supporters who share the same goal of serving.
Those in our Shoals Shelter community strive to embody Jesus' charge in Matthew 25:31-46 by providing our unhoused neighbors with overnight shelter, meal distribution, making computers accessible on shelter nights for job searches and housing applications, and the distribution of essential items.
We host our guests at local congregations Sundays and Thursdays and on nights when the temperature is below freezing (32 when dry and 40 when raining). While our guests are with us, we provide them with supper and breakfast, distribute toiletries, laundry vouchers, warming items, and camping essentials as available, and offer them and ourselves the opportunity to fellowship in spaces that we may not have otherwise.
Outside of shelter nights, we offer our guests support by connecting them with people they can reach out to for mentorship, companionship, and a listening ear. Our goal is to ensure they feel safe, heard, and valued for the wonderful creation of God that they are, even if they aren’t staying the night with us.
We would not be able to offer our guests all of these things if we didn’t have the support of our Shoals community - we could not be more grateful for the ways you have chosen to serve your neighbors.
