    Volunteer With Us!

We have many volunteer positions available and are always on the search for more people who want to serve our community with us.

We are seeking individuals to assist us with the following:

Intake Coordinators: we need two intake coordinators each night. Intake support will collect necessary information from guests and work with the law enforcement officer to ensure that all guests are safe and ready to board the bus to the host congregation. You will ensure that no guests leave after being searched by the officer and monitor any behavioral changes.

Hospitality Coordinators: We need two hospitality coordinators for four shifts throughout the night. We break the shifts into: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM; 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM; 10:00 PM - 2:00 AM; and 2:00 AM - 6:00 AM. Each shift will ensure a supportive environment for guests, spend time fellowshipping, make computers accessible for job and housing applications, and meet needs that arise.

Transportations Assistance: We need a driver for our guests to go from The Help Center to the host congregations and a driver to get our guests from the host congregation to designated locations. Drivers will ensure that guests are safe while on the bus, that the guests get all of their belongings and trash, and that any items that were locked up are returned to guests in the morning. Shoals Shelter provides the van when the congregation cannot provide transportation.

Setup and Cleanup Support: Sometimes congregations aren’t able to provide cots/bedding/supplies. In those instances, we need someone to set up our supplies at the host congregation. We also need volunteers to pick up soiled bedding and cots from congregations and deliver them to the appropriate locations.

Organization Support: We have a wonderful community that provides many donations. These are stored at The Dream Center and received by its team. But our space sometimes needs attention of its own to ensure it’s easily accessible and well-stocked to meet our guests’ needs

Meal Support: We always need food! Often, congregations provide food, but sometimes they can’t, especially on emergency nights. You can help us meet that need or provide our guests with bagged lunches to take with them when they leave the host church.

    Open Your Doors!

We do not have our own shelter location; instead, we shelter our guests in local church buildings that are willing to open their doors to our guests.

We are always in need of more congregations to open their doors and allow our guests to sleep in a calm and warm environment.

This is a wonderful way to strengthen your congregation’s homeless outreach and ministry - a way to serve the underserved and show them the love of Jesus in a tangible way.

While our guests are with you, there will be volunteers for the entire duration of the stay - if your congregation is unable to provide them, we will send someone to you - ensuring the safety of the guests and maintaining the integrity of the space you have allowed us to use.

You are welcome to set up a listening space in a private area to invite guests to come for prayer or Bible study - many of our guests are hungry for this kind of comfort and care and will take advantage of the time to fellowship with you.
