Lorraine moved to Florence in 2019, and got involved with Room in the Inn, then with Home Free Haven, and now Shoals Shelter. Prior to her move, she was a volunteer for several years in Atlanta with Church of the Common Ground, a church without walls or a roof, a community for anyone feeling alone. Church of the Common Ground meets for worship every Sunday afternoon in Woodruff Park, in any weather. They also have Bible study and morning prayer in public spaces. Along with her other service in the community and on the Shoals Shelter committee, she serves as the clothing manager at the Help Center.
